After working as a professor of psychology at Brandeis University in Waltham. Massachusetts for 38 years, in July, 2014, I retired.  I was 71 years old--why not?  Before retiring, I taught courses in developmental psychology and did research on children's development of play, art, and creativity; on varied cultural influences on development; and on factors leading to aggression and violence in children and adolescents.  During the last four years I was Dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.  I simply didn't have time to write a blog.  I also had little time to do art, which I love, but now doing art, writing, traveling, and once again playing bass, is what my new "career" consists of.  Ethan, the last of our four sons, went off to college at the same time that I retired; so Beth and I became empty nesters at the same time--well that is if you don't count Bert and Ernie Basset Hound and Chester Cat.  We live in Wellesley, Massachusetts.  Though I love the Rocky Mountains and the great Southwest, I love living in New England even more. We have four sons, two daughters-in-law (the two oldest sons are married), and five grandchildren.  And I am a practicing member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons), and thus I am busy.  So far, I love retirement.

So, if you are interested, you can check out my writings and pictures of my art work on this website.  (The pictures are done in pencil, watercolor, and pastel.  Some of my paintings are for sale; just ask me.)  I will add stories, essays, musings, and travelogues, which I hope you will find entertaining.   If you want to contact me, my e-mail is:  watson@brandeis.edu.

Thanks.
